TO HERA

(1–5) I sing of golden-throned Hera whom Rhea bare. Queen of the immortals is she, surpassing all in beauty: she is the sister and the wife of loud-thundering Zeus,—the glorious one whom all the blessed throughout high Olympus reverence and honour even as Zeus who delights in thunder. The Homeric Hymns

Hera, the Greek goddess of women and marriage, known as the daughter of the Titans, Cronus and Rhea.

Sister and wife to Zeus, Hera was envious of Zeus’ relationships with other women. Stories teach that Hera was fraught with jealousy and we hear more about this than her accomplishments. Was she really as spiteful as the Greeks painted her and how she is often still viewed today? It is worth knowing it is believed Hera ruled alone long before the union with Zeus.

Even today, women who command power are often seen as villainous, just as Hera was. In a world where there is much for women to be outraged about, not being listened to can make it difficult to maintain calm and inner balance.

From the Sacred Mothers & Goddesses Oracle Cards set

Hera’s message to us is that there is enough for everyone. Be aware of your needs and desires. Instead of getting caught up in envious thoughts, allow jealousy to be a beam of light that illuminates what you desire.

If someone else can do something, or have something, so can you.
